Medical Gap Cover

Posted by Editor On April - 16 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Three facts that should be extremely concerning to all medical aid members:

Fact 1: Doctors and specialists charge significantly more than your medical aid will pay

Fact 2:    You are liable for the shortfall

Fact 3: Accidents, illness, and medical emergencies can happen at any time

A common misconception is that a 100% medical scheme option will pay for 100% of a member’s in hospital treatment costs.  This is simply not the case.  The percentages used by medical schemes describe the percentage of the medical scheme’s own tariff list they will pay and are not an indication of the percentage of the treatment costs that they would cover.
Medical practitioners such as Doctors, Surgeons and Specialists are free to charge what they choose and they may even charge up to 400% of the medical scheme’s tariff.  The result is a payment shortfall or Gap that is for the account of the medical scheme member.
These payment Gaps can be significant.  For example members that are on a 100% medical scheme option would be liable for a personal payment of approximately R9 500 should they undergo a caesarean childbirth, a coronary bypass operation would leave a shortfall of approximately R29 500, hip replacement R18 000, knee replacement R14 000 and tonsillectomy R5 500.  These are some of the frequent shortfalls that exist but in total there are thousands of procedures that would result in payment shortfalls.  It is specifically these payment shortfalls that are covered by Medical Gap Cover.

Medical Gap Cover covers the difference between 100% of the tariff and the medical practitioners charge regardless of what your medical scheme pays which means that if you are on a medical scheme that pays more than 100% of tariff you will have extra cash in your pocket.

For a premium of R128 per month, cover is provided with a total annual limit of R165 000 per individual member and

R1 000 000 per family.

(Personal Accident Cover is provided to the member at no additional cost)

How to pay less taxes (legally)

Posted by Editor On June - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Tax Season is finally upon us and like most people we’ll probably leave it to the last minute. And then there’ll be the inevitable rush to get things done and submit your documents to SARS hoping that the gods will smile kindly on you.
For most people and small businesses, we’ve just come out of the worst recession since 1933 and your figures are probably not looking great. That, of course, just adds to the stress of making sure things get done properly and hoping that you have enough cash reserves to cover your tax bases.

Everyone wants to decrease their tax liability, and we thought we’d compile a few for you:

1. Get your things in order now.

Too many people wait until the very last minute. When the deadline looms they can’t find the right documentation, mistakes get made and they end up paying more taxes than they should because they can’t claim for things they have the right to claim for. My getting your documentation done now you’ll have enough time to sort out a proper tax strategy.

2. Be honest with your taxes.

If you’ve messed up and don’t have the cash reserves to pay your taxes – be honest about it. SARS is not the monster people make them out to be, as long as you’re the one that confesses the mess-up to them. You may find SARS would be happy to give you a payment plan.

3. Use a proper accountant.

Too many people try and do their taxes themselves. This goes for personal and business people. South Africa’s tax laws are complicated, to say the least. Don’t be deceived by the simplified forms. By using a proper accountant to submit your taxes you’ll find there are things you have the right to claim for that you didn’t even know about!

Need some help?

If you’ve read through this and realise you’re in trouble, don’t panic. We’ve asked our friends at Bach Accountants to be on standby for anyone who wants to get their taxes in order. Visit their website, by clicking here.

Why Life Insurance?

Posted by Editor On April - 8 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Life insuranceWhy do you need life insurance?

Life insurance isn’t for the benefit of the person who is insured, it’s for the insured’s loved ones. Your family needs the guarantee of a comfortable financial future in the event that something should happen to you. A good life insurance policy can help you meet that goal.

The primary purpose of life insurance is to enable your family to continue their current lifestyle when and if you’re no longer around. It is also designed to help meet specific needs that your family will have in the future.

Here are a few examples of how a good life insurance policy can protect your family:

  • Life insurance will replace your lost income in the event that it goes away in the future.
  • It can pay off your mortgage and provide your family with a debt-free home.
  • Credit card and other consumer debts can be liquidated with life insurance benefits.
  • An adequate life insurance policy will fund a quality education for your children.
  • Final expenses can be paid from your life insurance proceeds, preventing the need for your spouse and/or children to have to deal with them at the worst possible time.

Hollard Life Cover

How much life insurance do you need?

As a general rule, a married couple with children should purchase a life insurance policy for at least 8-10 times the primary wage-earner’s annual salary. But special circumstances may require more:

  • Do you have a large bond on your home?
  • Do you have one or more children that will eventually attend university?
  • Do you have one or more family members who are long-term disabled or someone who  will require extensive medical care?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you need to adjust the amount of life insurance coverage accordingly. It’s wise to err on the side of too much coverage instead of not enough. Your life insurance agent can help you determine the amount of coverage that is best for you and your family.

Conclusion

Life insurance is insurance for your family’s peace of mind. Their future standard of living may well depend on the life insurance decisions that you make today. Click here to get a free quote today.

Boycott the Recession

Recession Busting Breakfast

Recession Busting Breakfast

A few months ago I heard about an initiative to Boycott the Recession. The initiative was started by Blair Singer, the founder of SalesPartners Worldwide. The initiative has spread to South Africa.

One of the most powerful things about South Africa is our Spirit of Ubuntu. Nowhere else in the world do you find a sense of community like that when a group of like-minded people get together to help each other out of a difficult situation.

The astounding truth is that we have the power of adding our strengths and working together to change your Personal Recession into a time of Personal Growth.

In the same Spirit of Ubuntu, three dynamic business women, Bettina Horvath of SalesPartners Cape Region, Gwen Kloppers of Inspiring Women Network and Veena Sebastian of the Atlantic Imbizo Conference Venue, decided it was time to work together to help small business owners unleash their potential and bust through the recession.

Cape Townians have the opportunity to learn how to bust through the recession in just three hours.

There are business breakfasts. And then there are Recession Busting Business Breakfasts. This is not merely an opportunity to collect a few business cards and hope for the best. This is an opportunity to learn valuable skills that will take your business to new heights and give you the opportunity and the skills to turn your business around, literally within 3 hours.

In this powerful and engaging breakfast you will learn within 3 hours exactly what it takes to find clients, make a memorable impact and close more sales.

As part of the breakfast each delegate will also be given a Recession Buster Kit valued at over R3500.
